SWATCHES: Wet n Wild Fergie Eyeshadow Palette in Milano Collections

Wet n Wild Fergie Milano Collections Ingredients

When I first picked up the Wet n Wild Photo Focus Studio Eyeshadow Palette in A226 Milano Collections, which is part of the Fergie Centerstage Collection, it didn't scream to me as an Urban Decay Naked (1) dupe. It only became apparent to me when I decided to do this swatch post, so look out for the comparison near the end!

I believe I picked this up last month at Walgreen's for $7.99 but it had a $1 off coupon attached to the front of the palette.

THE RUNDOWN:
~10-shadow drugstore eyeshadow palette
~ Contains 0.28 oz / 8.1 g of product total so each shadow is 0.028 oz or 0.81 g each
 ~Comes with double-ended brush; one side is a long, skinny fluffy blending brush while the other is a thin flat brush that's better for concealer or cream products. It's not dense enough to pack on eyeshadow
~Cruelty-free, paraben-free, oil-free, made in China

THE COLORS (description + mini review):
1. Satin/demi-matte ivory- not much pigmentation but good for a soft highlight
2. Pink champagne shimmer- this color along with the next two shimmers have to be built up to get a good even color
3. Yellow gold shimmer- needs to be built up to get a good even color
4. Copper bronze shimmer- this is the most disappointing color of the palette. I expected this to go on smoothly, pigmented and maybe have a foil finish.  It has so be built up many times to somewhat satisfy me.  Not smooth at all.
5. *Antique bronze shimmer (my fave of the bunch)- the smoothest shimmery shade in the whole palette and has a good pigmentation. I love this one the most and reminds me of Urban Decay's Smog.
6. Mid-tone cool matte brown - this is the transition shade in the palette and the only one.
7. Light taupe shimmer- has to be built up like #'s 2, 3 & 4.
8. Dark warm brown with sparse golden flecks- looks more matte on the eye especially after blending; really pigmented
9. Dark cool-toned brown- really pigmented as well
10. Matte black- swatches a little patchy but pigmented

 COMPARISON OF WET N WILD FERGIE MILANO COLLECTIONS TO URBAN DECAY NAKED (1) PALETTE
Wet n Wild Fergie Milano Collections on top; Urban Decay Naked (1) palette on bottom

Top row is URBAN DECAY NAKED (1) palette with flash- Virgin, Sin, Half-Baked, Smog, Naked, Sidecar, Hustle, Creep. Bottom row is Wet n Wild Fergie Milano Collections. I know it doesn't match the picture of the palettes together.  I should have switched them around.
As shown in my swatches, there are 8 shades in the Wet n Wild Fergie palette that are similar to Urban Decay's Naked (1) palette. However, there are no similar shades to Urban Decay's Naked, Darkhorse, Toasted or Gunmetal in the Wet n Wild palette.

COMPARISON OF THE COLORS (top row Urban Decay Naked [1], bottom row Wet n Wild Fergie Milano Collectons):
~UD Virgin & WnW #1- Virgin is more pigmented and shimmery than #1. Not dupes
~UD Sin & WnW #2- very similar in color but UD is smoother and more pigmented
~UD Half-Baked & WnW #4- Half-Baked is more of a golden bronze, is smoother and doesn't have to be built up like #4. Not dupes
~UD Smog & WnW #5- SPOT ON DUPES! Similar in texture and pigmentation.
~UD Naked & WnW #6- Naked is a mid-tone neutral matte brown while WnW #6 is a mid-tone matte COOL brown. Not dupes.
~UD Sidecar & WnW #7- very similar in color but Sidecar has microglitter, which I can do without. WnW #7 isn't as smooth and pigmented as Sidecar, though.
~UD Hustle & WnW #8- Hustle is a dark brownish-burgundy shimmer but it swatches like a demi-matte dark brown so it ends up looking similar to WnW #8. Quite strange.
~UD Creep & WnW #10- Creep is a matte black with silver or multicolored flecks while the WnW #10 is just a matte black and not as smooth. Not dupes but black is black.
Top row: Urban Decay Naked (1)- Virgin, Sin, Half-Baked, Smog, Naked, Sidecar, Hustle & Creep.  Bottom row: Wet n Wild Fergie Milano Collections in natural light.

Overall, the Wet n Wild palette was "meh" for me.  The shimmers aren't up to par with the textures in the Comfort Zone palette or some of the trios. The mattes were pigmented but not the smoothest, either.  But if you don't have an Urban Decay Naked (1) palette, then you might consider getting this especially if you're on a budget.  Personally, I would splurge on the Urban Decay palette because the pigmentation and texture is much better, and you would be getting 4 additional colors.

Thanks for stopping by! =)

My "GoTo Palette"

My GoTo Palette consists of eyeshadow colors I use on a regular basis. So instead of making an all brown palette, or an all green or all purple palette like many people do, I decided to make one palette that I can open to do a look with, without having to open other palettes at the same time.

At first, I was going to order the empty 28 pan palette from Stars Makeup Haven , but I decided to save my money and just pop out the insert in a MAC palette that I already own. That way, instead of only holding 15 shadows, it will hold almost twice as much - 26 shadows. Many other people do this, as well, and all you have to do is pry some tweezers under one corner and pull the insert out.

Now, on to the pics and swatches. You'll see that I mostly like browns, pinks, peaches, golds and greens. Sorry, no blues or purples because I don't wear those colors too often. And there's a mix of brands here, from low end ($1) to high end ($14.50). Watch out for the dupe info in the color descriptions.

All shadows were swatched heavily over Scandalous Cosmetics Eyeshadow Magnet. Colors can vary depending on application method and type of base.

Left Half

Right Half

Click to enlarge. All shadows are labeled.

1. NYX Barely There: Satin pale gold
2. NYX Highlight*: Matte creamy yellow; it won't look that yellow when you apply it as a highlight - I packed it on, remember?
3. MAC Tete-A-Tint: Matte peachy color with fawn brown undertones; apply it as a wash for a more natural look
4. Milani Illusion: Sheer, shimmery light pink with gold duochrome; this color won't look like the swatch unless you pack it on well; I like to layer this over other colors; it's very unique
5. MAC Expensive Pink: Veluxe pearl; shimmery peachy-pink with gold duochrome
6. MAC Bold & Brazen (LE): Starflash finish (I really don't know how to describe the difference of this finish with others, but it's more shimmery without being glittery or sparkly); shimmery mid-tone peach; DUPE- the light color in the L'Oreal HIP Duo in Playful (click here for swatch)
7. Milani Flare: Shimmery orange with peach tones; DUPE- MAC Coppering

8. NYX Brown: Matte, medium warm-toned brown; I like the single better but this will do; this is great in the crease or just above it
9. NYX Suede: Matte cool-toned brown; DUPE- MAC Wedge
10. Wet n Wild Fine Wink*: Shimmery champagne-pink; LOVE this as a lid color; DUPE- MAC Naked Lunch; (howto depot)
11. MAC All That Glitters: Veluxe pearl; shimmery peachy-champagne-beige; I also LOVE this as a lid color; DUPE- NYX Champange but ATG is slightly more of a peachy-champagne while NYX's is more beige-champagne
12. MAC Woodwinked: Veluxe pearl; shimmery golden bronze
13. MAC Go (LE): Starflash finish; shimmery cocoa bronze; DUPE- MAC Tempting

14. NYX Golden: Shimmery, golden yellow; this is from the Yellow Pearl/Antique Gold/Golden trio
15. NYX Antique Gold: Shimmery antique gold
16. NYX Golden: Shimmery orangey-gold; this is from the Golden/Rust/Walnut Bronze trio
17. MAC Satin Taupe*: Frost finish (don't be fooled by the name "frost" because it's not frosty); shimmery cool-toned taupe brown with plum undertones; you have to see it in real life because pics don't do it justice; my favorite color
18. NYX Walnut Bronze: Shimmery brown with dark pinkish-plum undertones
19. Milani Java Bean*: Shimmery warm dark brown; this shadow is a must-have!
20. MAC Glamour Check! (LE): Starflash finish; shimmery burgundy brown; DUPES- the dark color in the L'Oreal HIP Duo in Playful (click here for swatch) or Too Faced Full Frontal

Another look at the 3rd row. The difference between Satin Taupe and Java Bean is more prominent in this picture.

21. NYX Spring Leaf: Shimmery light green
22. NYX Green Tea: Shimmery mid-tone warm green
23. MAC Humid: Frost finish; shimmery hunter green; a must for green lovers; DUPES- NYX Mermaid Green, dark color in Wet n Wild Amazon Greens Trio (click here for swatch), or Milani Clover
24. Wet n Wild Naked: Semi-matte cool brown; great blender color
25. NYX Rootbeer: Satin ashy brown; good brow filler even if it's not matte (somehow it works)
26. elf Dusk: Shimmery black; not too frosty nor glittery

I'd definitely add NYX Sahara because that's my favorite highlight but I have the square single instead of the round pan.

If I had to recommend one color from each of the 5 different brands in my GoTo Palette (labeled with an asterisk in the color descriptions), they would be NYX Highlight, Wet n Wild Fine Wink, MAC Satin Taupe, Milani Java Bean, and elf Dusk. =)

Kick Azz $5 Palettes- Wet n Wild Ultimate Expressions

I've always heard about how good the Wet n Wild Ultimate Expressions Eyeshadow Palettes are, but I never got around to them. I don't know why I didn't buy these earlier! They are very well-pigmented, not to mention inexpensive.

~SPECS~

PRICE: Around $5 (My local Walgreen's are a rip off! I went to 3 different locations located within 2 or 3 miles of each other and each store had a different price: $5, $5.29 & $5.49. WTF?)
PRODUCT AMOUNT: 8 colors; 9.5 g in total.
COLORS AVAILABLE: (3)- Sand Castle, Paradise Cove & Fantasy Island
TEXTURE: Soft but not chalky
INGREDIENTS: Click here
MAKEUP ALLEY REVIEW: Click here

PROS: Very well-pigmented; has a huge pull-out mirror; sponge tip applicator clips inside the palette so it doesn't annoyingly fall out; inexpensive; easy to find

CONS: Thick, bulky packaging; not enough matte highlight colors; limited color selection

The Sand Castle palette has the perfect summer colors and any neutral color lover will adore this. Sand Castle has more of a shimmery finish than the Paradise Cove palette. I don't care for the bottom left color; even though it's matte it has small sparkly pieces in it, which I don't like. The rest are shimmers.

Paradise Cove is also a great palette for neutral color lovers, even though it contains a pretty purple and burgundy color. The bottom-left color has a semi-matte finish while the rest are shimmers.

FINAL THOUGHTS: I ADORE THEM!

******************************

So those were the "kick ass $5 palettes" but I'll also include something else. Since Walgreen's was having a BOGO (your free item couldn't be more than $4.49), I picked up a couple trios with my purchase of the Ultimate Expressions palettes. These are called the Wet n Wild Mega Eyes Eyeshadow Trios.

SPECS

PRICE: Around $3
PRODUCT AMOUNT: 3 colors; 4.2 g
COLORS AVAILBLE: (6)- Amazon Greens, Island Blues, Belgian Chocolates, Egyptian Sands, Mojave Mauves, Venetian Violets
TEXTURE: Drier and not as soft as the Ultimate Expressions palettes
INGREDIENTS: Click here

PROS: Pull-out mirror; easy to find anywhere

CONS: NOT AS PIGMENTED AS THE 8-COLOR ULTIMATE EXPRESSIONS palettes; dinky sponge tip applicator

FINAL THOUGHTS: I'm not buying these trios again. But hey, they were free anyway.

******************************

Now for the fun part: The Dupes...

Think about it! Scroll to the bottom for the answer.

The Wet n Wild palette is more pigmented than the Physicians Formula. It took more swipes to swatch Baked Sands.

I've heard that the 3rd color in the Amazon Greens trio could be a dupe for MAC Sumptuous Olive or Henna.

Did you guess correctly? =)
But remember, the trios are not as pigmented as the 8-color palettes. I had to rub my brush in the WnW green several times to get it to look like this.

I LOVE Paradise Cove and Sand Castle.

I think I'm cool with all my eyeshadows for now. After my NYX haul, that's it!

(Note: All swatches were done over the Scandalous eyeshadow base)

NOTD: "Playful Preppy"

I've always loved pink and gray together; It's kind of "preppy" to me. I couldn't decide if I wanted pink with gray tips or gray with pink tips....so I did both! Definitely something playful for me. Though the pink tips needed another coat, you get the idea. I'm not great at free handing a smile line anyway. (Finger Paints can be found at Sally Beauty Supply and Carolyn New York is available online. Sadly, both are not formaldehyde-free.)

It's hard to find any true gray nail polishes in drugstores that aren't silver. You'll probably have to order something online. Carolyn New York's Hangin' on the Stoop and Handball Courts are lovely true grays. China Glaze Recycle is also another good one and then there's MAC Hello Kitty On The Prowl. Know any others?...

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
But today is St. Patty's Day and I don't own any green nail polishes. I've been looking for a mint colored one. Anyway, I snagged up this teal stunner at the drugstore today for $0.99. I can't wait to try it. =)
*~UPDATE~*
I love it! This Wet n Wild Wild Shine polish is a teal that is definitely more green than blue, however, the flash in the third picture below makes it look even more blue. But IRL, it still looks more green than in the pictures. It was hard to get the true color to show up on camera and I strongly feel they didn't do this color justice.
The formula is actually pretty good; it's not watery or sheer and all I needed was two coats. So far, it hasn't chipped either. *UPDATE* OK, I just came home today and my whole left hand is chipped while the other hand isn't. Don't ask me why! LoL.
