Give Me Some Lip: Revlon Soft Nude & Maybelline Warm Me Up

Do I really need some more lipsticks when I already have tons?  No.  Do I need to try them just because? Yes!  The following will be a review of a Revlon ColorBurst lipstick and a Maybelline Color Sensational lipstick.
Revlon ColorBurst Lipstick in Soft Nude

THE RUNDOWN

PRICE: ~$6.50+ (I bought it at Target)
AMOUNT: 0.13 oz or 3.7 g
PRODUCT COLOR: Soft Nude #070 - a creme, peachy nude with no shimmer
TEXTURE: Creamy and moist, but still requires gloss over it
PIGMENTATION: Good, but with this color, I find I need to rub in on several times until I get my desired look since my lips are so pigmented.  But it's still nicely pigmented.
SCENT: I really can't detect any scent whatsoever
PACKAGING: Square, matte black tube with a quilted or fishnet etched pattern on two sides of the tube.  It has a round edge at the tip instead of the usual point, and the Revlon name is etched into the lipstick itself - very nice!  The colored swatch at the top of the cap seems to be very accurate to the actual product.  The sticker seals the tube so people can't test them in the stores, ensuring you get a clean product.
INGREDIENTS: Check them out at Drugstore.com (They also have very nice product photos of the other colors)

PROS: I find everything about this color and product is totally awesome! =)
CONS: I really can't find anything I don't like about it.

Top: True colors with flash; Bottom: Natural light

FINAL WORDS:  A perfect creamy and moist peachy-nude color with good pigmentation and lovely packaging.  It's now one of my favorites!

Love! <3
This is my FAVORITE lipliner: Flesh by Ulta. I used it with Revlon's Soft Nude and it works perfectly, but I also use this with my nude pinks. It's a matte, peach-toffee sort of color.

Maybelline Color Sensational Lipstick in Warm Me Up

THE RUNDOWN

PRICE: ~$5.50+ (I bought it at Target)
AMOUNT:  0.15 oz or 4.2 g
PRODUCT COLOR: Warm Me Up #235 (in the Naturals family) - a berry pink with a very subtle golden shimmer, which I didn't notice until I took macro photos.  I don't notice any shimmer when applied on the lips.  I don't understand why this is in the Naturals category, when it clearly is a berry pink color!  There's no brown in it whatsoever. A lot of pinks turn sort of purple-pink on me, and this one does that.  I don't know why; it could be my natural lip color or the lipstick just oxidizing?
TEXTURE: Creamy and moist. A hint more moist than the Revlon ColorBurst.
PIGMENTATION: Well-pigmented
SCENT: I can't place the scent but it's like a light candy scent which I actually love.  Those sensitive to scents may be turned off by it, though.
PACKAGING: Square transparent tube with a color-coded cap that corresponds to each lipstick, either belonging to the Pink, Plum, Red or Natural family.  It has a shiny silver base and the lipstick has a pointed tip.  Since the cap is almost the length of the whole lipstick, it can be a little hard to grasp onto the small base while opening the lipstick.  This is the only thing I don't like about it.

PROS: Great pigmentation, creamy, moist and inexpensive. Comes in 48 colors, not including the new Pearl colors.
CONS: Scented. May be a little hard to open since the base is so small and hard to grasp.  It's not sealed so the lipsticks in stores may have been tested on, so you might have to sanitize it when you get home, which is what I did just to be safe.

Lips are little crusty here...lol..because I just got done eating so I'm sorry for that. Also, this was before I decided to swatch Soft Nude by itself, hence, the half-lip swatches.

FINAL WORDS: I love the pigmentation and texture of Warm Me Up, but it wasn't really the kind of pink I was looking for. (I really want to try Pink Please or Totally Toffee.)  Other than that, it's a great, inexpensive lipstick with nifty color-coded caps.

Have a great day everyone! =)

*Collective Haulie*

Here's what I've bought in the past couple months. It's all eye candy! For some of the items I'll have a separate post with a review and swatches...

28-color neutral palette ($21.95, the shipping cost is ridiculous @ over $10). I thought I would love it but I just like it, well, I think it's OK. I'll have a review and swatch post in the future.

I got this for 25% off so it was really cheap for only $18.23, that's including tax and free shipping. That's the only thing I picked up during that special.
I always thought this packaging was gaudy, scaly and reptilian-looking but it actually kind of grew on me. I figured you can reuse the palette when you use up the glosses and put your own in there. Plus, it's just a good mirror to check your lips with at a restaurant. I constantly worry about having food on my lips or teeth when I eat out. "Do I have food on my face?...Do I have food on my face? You sure?" Haha

Ulta had a Friends & Family 20% off special not too long ago plus a buy 2 get 2 free on Ulta products. I love their eyeshadows ($7) and Safari kind of reminds me of a darker version of Henna or Sumptuous Olive because it's an antique gold with olive undertones but it's not very green.

Also swatched is NYX eyeliner in White ($2.99) and Ulta lipliner in Flesh ($7).

On clearance at Ulta was an Essie nail polish for $3.99 down from $6.99. Essie has the same exact INGREDIENTS as Fingerpaints nail polish from Sally's Beauty Supply. Refer to my previous post on more info. The "chip factor" on this one was 2/10 but with this color it was a little hard to get it to come out evenly. The total haul at Ulta was a little over $18.

These eyeshadows are from the new Revlon Matte collection which offers not only eyeshadows but blush, lipstick and eyeliner kohls. They're OK; it was a little powdery when I did the swatches but not when used on my eyes. These were on a BOGO but I had a $2 off coupon so I believe I got both for a little over 4 bucks. Cut those coupons ladies!!!

More Carolyn New York nail polish when they were 50% off with free shipping! I got all these for $19 plus some $2 processing fee which I don't even know what was for because my first order didn't have that. =( But I love their cute names! There's one called Poppy Chulo. LoL. I'll have a separate post with swatches on my nails.

BOGO Maybelline mascaras. I got both for $8.49 (the Lash Stiletto costs more) but ahh, I made a mistake and got brownish black instead of black. I was so damn excited to get the Lash Stiletto I forgot to check the color. LoL. But I can't even open these until it's time to throw away my current mascaras...

Victoria's Secret body lotions and sprays that smell like Vanilla. Mmmm. Their semi-annual sale for these was 6 for $19.99. Is it still going on? These are being discontinued. Everything I like gets discontinued! Do you remember Tutti Dolci from Bath & Body Works? ...Sugar Wafer.

I also got a horde of Clinique stuff, but most of it were freebies. Always search for codes on the net to get your free stuff ladies. I bought the small sized 1.7 oz Dramatically Different Moisturizing GEL (for oily skin $12.50) and these were free: 1 oz Take the Day Off, High Definition mascara, Superbalm Moisturizing Gloss in Grapefruit (love these!) and a lil Acne Solutions Emergency Gel Lotion.

I liked the Clinique DDMG so much that I bought the full sized 4.2 oz for $24 and this baby has a pump so it's very convinient. I also got 3 freebies with that: a High Impact Mascara and a Full Potential Lips in GlamourFull duo, another Superbalm Moisturizing Gloss in Currant and a Turnarond Concentrate sample. Also picture is the Neutrogena Healthy Skin Anti-Wrinkle cream ($11.42) that contains Retinol and no SPF (night). I bought this not because I have wrinkles but because Retinol is good for acne and so far I really like it. I'll do a review in the future.

And finally, Dandy's Shrimp Chips (LoL) which are so freaking addictive but they are really bad for you because it has MSG. They have another brand that are shaped like twisted French Fries and come in a bag with pink polka dots. Hmm, what was the brand again? Was it also Dandy's? Help me out my Asian and Filipina sistahs! =)
*Update* Thanks to an anonymous comment, the brand is Calbee. Now I remember...

So you see, I buy a lot of things on sale or on a BOGO. I use internet discount codes (which offer a discount, free shipping and/or free samples) and Sunday paper coupons to save money. All this effort to have more money in my pocket just to buy more beauty products! =)

Swatches: Ulta 65 Piece Blockbuster Set

Were you wondering what came with the 65 Piece Blockbuster Set because the website is so unhelpful? Here's the 29 small eyeshadows that I depotted into a CD palette and since they were so lightweight and would not stick to magnets, I used double-sided Scotch tape to adhere them. Then I used the names that were already printed on the plastic and taped them to the front of the CD case. Voila... (They're all shimmers except Wisteria Lane is matte while Naked and Sage are more of a semi-matte finish)
Swatches of the first 3 rows

Swatches of the last 2 rows. I have a few of the full size eyeshadows that come in the set and they are of different quality. The full size shadows are more pigmented and creamy while the eyeshadows in the set are pretty well pigmented but more powdery in texture. The full size shadows are way better so opt for those. But I think this was still worth it because it's good to play with.

I only really wanted the case and eyeshadows. I needed a little extra storage for things I don't really use. But don't think this is some great quality sturdy case. The bottom of the first two levels are kind of like flimsy cardboard that's coated with a soft material. It will still hold things up pretty well though. The bottom is a hard cardboard and the outside is vinyl that has some foam padding behind it. I like how the bottom part slides open when you flip up the top cover. (Note: Contents shown DID NOT come with the set. Only the 3 lipsticks and 2 shimmer powders at the bottom did.)

The lip quad and two eyeshadow quads are interchangeable with the case in the middle. Two square lipgloss pots, a duo ended lipliner, a duo ended eyeliner, 4 lipsticks and 2 shimmer powders in white and pink also come with the set.

Two lipglosses too. All the lipglosses are sheer. I never opened the plastic on the lip quad but I'm pretty sure they're sheer too.

Look how unbelievably super cute the tiny powder puff is! There is also a pink shimmer powder and I haven't broken the seals on these yet.

Lip and 2 eyeshadow quads. The eyeshadows have a faint odor of pen ink if you sniff them closely but it's not noticeable when wearing them.

Swatches of the 2 eyeshadow quads

The 5 blushes and 1 transluscent powder that I never touched or swatched. I don't think I'll use them since they're talc-based. Also comes with 12 other lipglosses that I haven't touched either but they look pretty. There was also a green and flesh-toned cream concealer that I threw out because they were "sweating" and they contained mineral oil anyway.

The four lippies aren't very special. They're not super moist or anything and the packaging is cheap plastic. The only one I can pull off is Nude Spice (not Nude Shimmer) and maybe Sienna Shimmer. I look like a clown with the other two colors. I'll have to use those over NYX Rea.

Swatches of the lipsticks and duo pencils (Nude Spice, not Nude Shimmer)
And the last pics
This set was $24.99 but there was a $5 off coupon code when I ordered it. Now they have a 20% off coupon code (97153) which comes out to the same total of around $20. Currently they are offering free shipping for orders $25 or more.

So is it worth it? Well, I'm not regretting my purchase. I like the eyeshadows although they are not the best quality they're still pigmented but a little powdery (I love their full size ones). And I like the pencil duos and the two square lipglosses. I didn't really buy it for the rest of the stuff except for the case which is coming in handy. I think it would be good as a gift for someone who's starting out or for someone who's a makeup junkie. Christmas is around the corner....Dang, already?

Ulta Eyeshadow Love

I love Ulta eyeshadows! I already owned 4 of them and bought 8 more and I really wished I had ordered more since they were only $1.25 each but that special is no longer going on.
I had planned on putting them into magnetic CD palettes but decided to skip on that idea. I removed various eyeshadows (e.l.f. Milani, NYX, pressed Everyday Minerals, MAC Starflash) that were in my second MAC palette and put them into my homemade magnetic palette that I got from Coastal Scents as you see below.

Then I removed the insert from the MAC palette that covers up the metal sheet on the bottom that's been spray painted gray. The sheet seems to be glued down to the plastic so I didn't need to worry about adhering that down.

Next I depotted the eyeshadows, which are about the second easiest thing I've ever depotted. Revlon Colorstay being the first and Milani singles being the third easiest. All you do is get a nail file and push down and away on the top edge of each pan. This pushes up the other end of the pan and while pushing down on one end, you grab the popped-up end with your other hand/finger. The little dot of sticky glue you see below is all that holds the pan in place.

After removing the excess glue with rubbing alcohol and paper towels, I peeled and stuck on adhesive magnets. I like cutting squares and I just simply labled each shadow by writing on the bottom of the pans with a Sharpie.

Ten Ulta eyeshadows will fit into a MAC palette with the insert taken out of it. I could also squeeze in only two regular sized eyeshadows at the bottom. They could not fit near the latch part at the bottom center.

Two stragglers had to be put into a CD palette. On the left is Dusk and on the right is Chestnut. These pans do not have magnets stuck behind them because the metal of the pan will stick better to the magnetic sheets.

Swatches with Flash (click image to enlarge)

Just a different angle. I used a Physician's Formula Color Eyes Cream Shadow Stick in Champagne as a base for the swatches.

COLOR DESCRIPTIONS

  • Aztec Gold - high pearl gold color; the texture of this is different than all the others; this one has bigger pieces of shimmer in it
  • Cashmere - shimmery camel color
  • Organza - light lilac shimmer, slightly taupe
  • Rose Dusk - light/medium pink shimmer
  • Golden Olive - shimmery olive green with a gold sheen
  • Dusk - darker version of Rose Dusk but more of a semi-matte finish
  • Luna - shimmery turquoise with a golden sheen
  • Peacock - shimmery medium blue; a true blue
  • Plum Smoke - shimmery bronzey color with a very slight and subtle plum tone
  • Mystical - shimmery darker version of Plum Smoke but has more red/burgundy tones
  • Eggplant - satin purple with cool tones rather than warm tones
  • Chestnut - semi-matte taupish-brown
I hope this helped in anyway! These eyeshadows are the same size but some of them say 3.0g on the label while others are 3.8g. I don't know why. It's not due to the different finishes neither. They are currently on sale online for $2.50 each which is a great deal because they are normally $7.00. Even with a BOGO, $2.50 is still cheaper than $3.50 so get them while the special lasts. I don't know if this special is going on in the stores also.
I have no idea why I didn't get more greens because that's my favorite color.

I also picked up the 65 piece Blockbuster Set only for the eyeshadow and the case. That post will be coming soon... =)

UPDATE! I got more...
This is my "jewel-tone" palette

  • Lustre- shimmery, very light silvery taupe

  • Terracotta- shimmery orangey-peach
  • Radiant- shimmery light celery green
  • Verdigris- shimmery medium green with gold
  • Envy- shimmery green with blue tones, more bluish green than Verdigris

  • Sapphire- shimmery royal blue
  • Night Sky- shimmery deep cool purple with multicolored glitters
(A NYX Jumbo Eyeshadow Stick in Cottage Cheese was used as a base in these swatches)

New Ulta Blockbuster Set & BARGAIN ALERT!

Now do I need more makeup? But how can I pass this up! I'm definitely getting the black one and hold up! Their single eyeshadows are ON SALE for $2.50 and that's with a BOGO so they're only $1.25 EACH. Regular price is $7.00, which actually went up recently from $6.50. OH SNAP! ::adding to cart:::

L to R: Cashmere, Golden Olive, Rose Dusk, Plum Smoke
These are the only 4 I already have and I love them!

Oh and if you were wondering about Ulta eyeshadows, they are very good quality for the size and price. They're pigmented and creamy and it's more than twice the amount of a MAC eyeshadow. So they don't fit in standard sized palettes but you can make one with a CD case. Check out my previous post where I made a magnetic CD palette.

And if you were wondering how I depotted them, I just used my nail file and pressed the top edge of the pan down and away from the eyeshadow until the opposite end popped out of the case. Then while pressing down with one hand, I tried to pull the pan up and out with the other hand at the same time. It's easy but a little tricky. What holds the eyeshadow in place is that sticky kind of glue that peels off nicely. If you get little samples of anything that open like a book, you know what I'm talking about. It kind of looks like clear snot. LOL. I think it's called museum glue or something. Anyways, there's a little dot of that near the bottom center of Ulta eyeshadows. It would be really hard for me to do a video on that because of the angle.

The Easiest Depot Ever!...In a Magnetic CD Palette

See my pretty CD palette? YAYE! It's actually the second one I've made because the first one was for some depotted Ulta eyeshadows which I need to make a post on. But I depotted 6 of my 8 Revlon Colorstay quads and they were the easiest things I've ever depotted...easier than Milani singles or Ulta Singles!

So in the picture above the names of the quads starting from the top left corner going clockwise are: Sultry Smoke, Steel Impressions, Spring Moss, Blushed Wines, Lavender Meadow & Priceless Metals. And yes, it's magnetic. I used my peel and stick business card sized magnets that I got in a pack of ten at Joann craft store. I used three but had to trim off one of them to fit the inside of the case perfectly. If you want a straight line, especially when trimming the origami paper, use one of those cutters with a slide blade that's used for photos and other crafts. You can see the excess magnet on the left side of the palette. It's that gray strip.

I brought the edges of the origami paper up both sides so that it has nice decorative edges and on the spine I wrote the name of my palette. I decided to call it "Revlon Colorstay 1" in case I want to depot my other quads, plus I always get more anyway.

Here's the back view. As you can see, I used two different designs of origami paper for the back and for the inside bottom. I decided not to make a front label so that I can see what's in there. I like it that way better. You can also write the names of the eyeshadows on top of the CD case cover with a Sharpie if you wanted to. I just used Scotch Tape to adhere the paper to the CD case and I made sure to use two big strips on the top and bottom since I knew this palette would be heavy. Yup, it's pretty hefty with 24 pans in them. I recommend DOUBLE-SIDED Scotch tape for the best hold and appearance.

I used business sized peel and stick magnets. You need 3 of them but you'll have to trim one of them down a little. (This is a pic of the other palette I made)

And if you decide you want to take some with you for travel, 7 pans will fit perfectly into a depotted NYX trio case. All you have to do is peel and stick another magnetic sheet to the bottom of that and voila, you are ready to go.

This is how I depotted them. All you need is a push pin and nothing else. If you turn it on it's back, there are 4 holes on the left side of each quad. The first two quads I did, I peeled off the stickers and then I realized I didn't need to do that! I just had to find the first hole on top and poke through the sticker. Once you find the first one, then the others are easier to find since they're lined up in a straight line.

Here's the front view of a depotted quad. See the four little holes on the right side?

Here's the push pin I used. You can also try using the back of an earring.

The g00iest, stickiest, creamiest, most annoying glue ever!

Sorry I don't have a pic with the shadows being pushed up the palette (UPDATE: I added a pic). Once I got started, I just did all of them. LOL. But behind each shadow pan is a circle of glue near the middle of the pan. It's a different kind of glue where you don't have to melt or dissolve with alcohol. It's really sticky, creamy, and gooey...kind of like the consistency of peanut butter and if you get it on your hands it's a mess. I used a paper towel to scrape it off the back of each pan. I found that alcohol didn't really help in removing the excess from that back and it just left a tacky mess. And you need only to apply little pressure with the push pin since the pans lift up so easily.

I swear these Revlon Colorstay Quads are the easiest things in the world to depot. It's like Revlon knew we would like the option of depotting since they put those four little holes in the plastic. Now why can't every company do that? Hmm, maybe they do! I'm going to start peeling off the backs of my drugstore eyeshadows to check. LoL =P

If you make this palette, this would be the optimum hold for eyeshadow or blush pans WITHOUT magnets because some magnets do not stick very well to these magnetic sheets. If you want to make one for eyeshadow with magnets on the bottom of them already, try using a metal sheet to glue on the bottom of the CD case like the kind you find at the bottom of an e.l.f. compact.

Have fun depotting your Revlon Colorstay Quads and making you own CD palette!! <3>

*UPDATED PICS*

I made two magnetic CD palettes! Yaye! My pride & joy.

Quad names clockwise from top left: Blushed Wines, Berry Bloom, Lavender Meadow, Sultry Smoke, Steel Impressions (@ Walmart only) & Spring Moss

Quad names clockwise from top left: Priceless Metals, Copper Spice, Coffee Bean (matte except for the 3rd color), Sterling Rose, Nude Elements, Sandstorm
Swatches to come!...
See swatches here.

I made a palette for my first four Ulta eyeshadows which are such good quality! They're huge too. You get about 3.6g or something and they're really creamy and pigmented. I got these on a BOGO. They used to be $6.50 each but now they're $7.00. What's up with that? But it's still worth it. This was the first CD palette I made. You can fit up to 9 Ulta eyeshadows in this baby.

Clockwise from top left: Cashmere, Golden Olive, Plum Smoke & Rose Dusk
