Bargain Nail Polish Rack

Hello everyone! I was running out of space for all my nail polish on the top shelf of my corner storage. Initially, there were three rows of polish there (only two rows in the picture below) and it was hard to see what was behind the first row. So, I had to find some better storage.

So what do you think? It's much better now, but I had to move the rack to the other side of my room, since my new storage unit is too wide to fit on top of the black shelf.

Do you see any blue polishes?....Nope, I need to get one.

"NAIL POLISH RACK" SPECS

3-Tiered Shelf Organizer

• WHAT: Room Essentials Tiered Shelf Organizer. This is actually intended for kitchen storage but it's an alternative to a real nail polish rack.
  
• WHERE: I purchased this at Target in the kitchen section near the lazy Susans and drawer organizers. I can't find this online.
• PRICE: $8.24
• DIMENSIONS: 14 ¹/₄" x 9 ⁹/₁₆" x 3 ³/₈"
• MATERIAL: Made from plastic and claims to have a non-slip surface. Not! The gray area is still slippery like plastic and has raised bumps in a grid pattern, which I find annoying.
• DESCRIPTION: This plastic organizer has 3 tiers. Each tier is deep enough to hold 2 rows of your nail polish bottles. However, since this isn't a true nail polish rack, the second row on each tier will not sit higher than the first row. But it's all good! This is much better storage than just lining up your nail polish on a flat shelf.
• NAIL POLISH STORAGE SPACE: Each tier will hold about 10-12 bottles of nail polish, depending on the size of the bottles. It will hold even more if you're using it for skinny nail art polishes. But as an estimate, the whole unit can hold an average of 66 bottles, and will definitely hold at least 60 bottles. I have 53 bottles on mine, and still have another row free.

The only thing I don't like about it is that the back part is cutout - there's no back "leg". So I couldn't put this on top of my black shelf, hanging over the edge, because it won't stand up. I added some non-slip pads under the sides so that it won't slip on top of the drawers I have it on.

WHY DIDN'T I JUST BUY A REAL NAIL POLISH RACK?

Because I didn't want to spend $25-$50 plus shipping on just a nail polish rack. Yes, they look lovely and all, but right now I'd rather spend that money on nail polish itself.

At first, I was going to buy a lazy Susan to hold my nail polish (lol), thinking that it would be cool to have a rotating nail polish rack, but I figured it would be hard to reach the bottles on the inside of the bottom tier. But it was still a good idea, right?

UPDATED Corner Storage and GoTo Palette

The picture above shows the storage on the top of my desk (it's actually two square tables put together because you can never find a table this long and wide unless it's a ridiculous price). I bought a new three-drawer unit from Walmart for $4 a couple days ago to put on top of my 6-drawer unit on the right side. I lined the drawers with paper towels and non-slip pads and put a few thing inside them already. I abandoned my old "Daily Train Case" idea and put all the makeup I reach for the most into these drawers and reserved my train cases for extra things.

I also reorganized many things on the black shelf too, but I've never shown that before. My laptop is under the blue sheet and my closet is to the right. I have shelves under the table where I keep my train cases (see picture below). I think I may do a video next month about my collection and storage. Shoot, it's only been almost a year since I uploaded my last YT vid. =P

Then I updated my GoTo Palette because I bought two MAC eyeshadows that I've been wanting. Can you see the difference? I switched out MAC Bold & Brazen and Wet n Wild Naked with MAC's Ricepaper (third in first row) and Texture (fifth in first row).

I've been wanting Ricepaper (a frost) since the year 2000...no lie! I finally got it. Ahaha! I think it's now my favorite shimmery highlight.

And then I got Texture (a velvet), which is the perfect above the crease color. I don't buy MAC too often but these two colors are must-haves.

NYX's Sahara looks almost exactly like Ricepaper. What do you think? Even though the texture of Ricepaper is a little better, Sahara is still a very good eyeshadow - and still a favorite.

EXTRA TIDBIT: Oooh lookie! Elf Studio now has eyeshadow singles and new blushes. Yup, I'm gonna have to try a couple of the eyeshadows because I'm too much of an eyeshadow junkie. I'm currently not buying any more lip products until I finish a tube of lipstick or gloss, but I'm still allowing myself eyeshadow. =)

Becky asked if NYX Brown was a good dupe for MAC Texture. So I busted out with my Brown single and the depotted one from the trio but I don't think they look alike. Both browns are matte while Texture has a little bit of shimmer and has terracotta/orange undertones. What do you think? But, NYX Brown (single) is still a good above the crease color and for blending up colors on the lid.

And a while back, Stephanie pointed out if NYX Champagne and MAC All That Glitters were dupes. To me, I say that they're close enough. Although on a white base NYX Champange looks more beige-champagne and MAC All That Glitters looks more peach-champagne, on a shimmery beige base, there's not much difference. Both are very pretty lid colors but I think NYX Champagne is good enough.

Peek Into My Daily Traincase

PIC HEAVY!!

Meet my Rockstar Caboodle that I got from Tar-Jeh for only $19.99. It's one of their smaller sized train cases and this one has black lace overlay while the others are either plain black, silver metal or pink metal. They all come with a latch that locks but I never lock it anyway. I've had it for 8 months and it's very durable and sturdy, however, I don't hold it by the handle because it's too heavy to support it that way. Instead, I always grab it from the bottom. The dimensions are 9.5" x 6.5" x 7.5".

This is my daily train case that I open up everyday because it contains my favorite eyeshadows and blushes, mascaras, eyelash curlers & eyeliners. Take a peek... =)

You can fit 12 5g-sized sample jars in each tray or 5 10g-sized jars & 5 5g-sized jars in each tray.
Here's the left side with all Everyday Minerals blushes and eyeshadows (2 foundation colors I use as contour). I lined the top trays with non-slip padding because I got tired of straightening out the jar labels every time I opened the case. Yup, I'm anal!

In the bottom are more favorite eyeshadows, mascaras, TFSI, eyelash curlers & my Anastasia brow powder duo. If you see something you want to know the color of, just ask! =)

Closeups

Many of the items in the bottom are stacked on top of each other. If you do this, you can cut out non-slip padding and put them under your eyeshadows so that they don't slide around everywhere. The downfall of this case is that you have to dig for stuff on the very bottom so I keep my less used items there.

So after doing this post, I can't believe how much stuff this little Caboodle holds! And it's no mystery that I love brown, green, and peach eyeshadows ;)
